The aim of the discussion is to help the young person reflect on the experience and learn from it and feel acknowledged.”

“We offer respectful validation of young peoples thoughts and emotions which enable them to identify the initial causes of their feelings. We help young people put coping strategies into place. We usually begin with a short chat and walk with them as they take small steps to tackle their problems. Along the way, they build up positive strategies which empower and give them more confidence.”

“All patients have opportunity to talk in confidence about worrying thoughts, feelings or behaviour. They are offered a 1:1 session with their allocated nurse at least once per day. We try to give them a choice of time and location for these sessions. Some young people have particular times of the day where their mood is worse or where they have more headspace, and some are just not morning people!”
Conduct assembly talks, workshops or camps in schools to teach young people how to tell stress and depression apart, cope with their emotions in a crisis and reach out to friends with mental health issues.
